S/S 12 Trend - Waterfall / Mullet Hemline Skirt

This has to be one of my favourite styles that has emerged this year. The waterfall hemline, also known as the 'high-low' or less attractively known as the 'mullet', has come back in style for summer.
I used to see it a lot on eBay when I was scouring for vintage pieces that had been reworked but I'm glad its gone mainstream. Seen on the  spring/summer 2012 runways at shows like Diane von Furstenberg and Alexander McQueen, it has been a popular style that's been popping up in a number of high-street shops.
I particularly like it because unlike some maxi skirts which I often find too short this combines both a mini/midi with a maxi skirt and I personally find is quite a flattering shape.

Pintrest

I'm not sure where the time is going at the moment. One minute it's February, the next we're well into April and I'm not quite sure what I've been doing in between.
My friend asked me last year to create her wedding table plan (which I was thoroughly honoured to be asked to do) but with it less than a month away I realised I needed to get a move on and between that and working, everything else (including blogging) has taken a back seat.
Though ashamedly I should admit, that I've also been spending far too much time on Pintrest. I'm sure most of you of heard of it by now but if you haven't I wrote a short article about the basics here.

It gets pretty addictive (as you can see I've been pinning quite a bit) because it's so easy to use and it's all visual. You can pretty much pin anything.

The flaw I find is that it's often difficult to search for a specific term like 'platforms' or 'pink lipstick' as it all depends on what is put in the description by the pinner. I've typed in before looking for interior design schemes and pictures of food have come up.
However it's still a relatively new social network site in comparison to say Twitter or Facebook and they seem to be making improvements regularly.
The other sort of grey are is the copyright of images. Whatever you pin, the responsibility lies on you rather than Pintrest so if someone is going sue over copyright at the moment they would sue you.
It doesn't seem to have stopped the masses however, as it's now supposedly the third largest social networking site but it will be interesting to see what happens in the future or what will happen to the site when the first lawsuit happens (which will undoubtedly happen at some point)

Rings&Tings Review

I recently bought some bits from Rings & Tings and thought i'd do a little review. I came across the site when I saw a really interesting upside down, triangle necklace on LookBook.

The necklace was really cheap and there were a few other items that I thought i'd try.

In the end I bought the triangle necklace, a thin gold, heart bracelet and white heart, silver necklace (all above).

In total the three pieces came in at under £10 (inc delivery) and they arrived really quickly (it literally arrived the next day)

The quality of the pieces are what you would expect for the price but great for costume jewellery pieces and great if you like to buy a lot for less.

The only thing I would say is that some of the pictures on the site are a bit misleading. I recognised a few images from ASOS and the heart bracelet had an image of a Dogeared bracelet and box (which isn't what your going to get)

But overall I was quite happy with what I received and would definitely go back and check out their new stock. 

Zoe Saldana

 Get the Look

One of my favourite looks from all of the Fashion shows of late is Zoe Saldanas outfit at the Prabal Gurung’s Fall 2012 show. 

Pulled straight from his Spring 2012 runway, Zoe definitely pulled of the look and stood out from the crowd (which is a hard task when sat amongst the celebrity filled front rows).

Not a look I think I could pull of in my mundane day to day world but if I ever got a chance to go to New York Fashion week, this would be amongst one of the first outfits i'd try.

Jill Sander A/W 2012

One of the most beautiful catwalk shows this year was Jill Sanders. Marking the end of Raf Simons reign and the return of Jill Sander herself to the design house the collection was particularly poignant. 

Surrounded by seven plinths of flowers in perspex boxes, marking the seven years of Simons years at Jill sander, models walked the runway in a soft colour palette and simple silhouettes. 

I think I particularly liked this collection because of the feminine and softly sweet colour palette and I bet a number of celebrities will be clamouring to get their hands on the collection first.

It will be interesting to see when Simons ends up and await to see what Jill Sander will bring to the next collection for the runway. 

Alexander McQueen A/W 2012

From all the A/W Catwalk shows, one of my favourites had to be Brit, fashion staple McQueen. Since inheriting the designer's chair, Sarah Burton's fourth catwalk show for the label had to be the best collection so far. 

Layer upon layer of frothy and fantastical pieces took centre stage and was a beautiful mix of futuristic yet feminine dresses. 

How the models balanced in heel-less shoes in the voluminous looks is beyond me but the looks were ethereal and the glowing, bubbling baubles above added to the theatrical dream. 

If you get a chance you must take a look at the whole collection. They are certainly not every day where but more, works of art. 

Oscar Dresses 2012

Only a week after the event itself, I got a chance to see the dresses worn to the oscars. I did contemplating watching them live but with it being a sunday evening with the Oscar's not happening until 3am, I thought best to give it a miss.

Equally as stunning as the Bafta's the U.S didn't disappoint. Metallics were big this year as seen by Oscar winner Meryl Streep and George Clooney's lady friend Stacey Keibler.

Red made a reappearance as it does every year in one form or another but the stand out gowns for me were the all in white on the night. Gwyneth Paltrow's sleek, caped Tom Ford number and Rooney Mara (Girl with a Dragon Tattoo) in a couture sheer lace Givenchy dress stood out from the crowd on the red carpet (which is no mean feat in a sea of famous faces).

There was one dress or should I say leg that almost overshadowed the event and that was the exposed limb of Angelina Jolie.

After the infamous appearance, a twitter account called @Angiesrightleg, gained thousands of followers (the account currently has 47,613 followers and follows Bradley Coopers Moustache @CoopersMustache and @JLosNipple). The twitter account and bloggers around the world took to their computers and photoshopped said leg onto various celebrities and photographs, even the Queen got a leggy makeover, (click here for pictures gone photoshop, leg crazy). 

It seems even without a nomination, Angie can still steal the show. Maybe she felt threatened by Miss Piggy, who wore a show stopping gown to the Bafta's and felt the need to step up her game? But to be fair I would feel inferior too.  Without disappointment, Miss Piggy rocked up to the Oscar's wearing a dress by Zac Posen, jewellery from Fred Leighton and shoes by Christian Louboutin.
Ah it's a hard life being a pig. 

Fashion: Zara S/S 12

As the Autumn/ Winter 12 collections hit the runways this month, the high-street's S/S collections begin to hit the rails. 
After having some time to kill last weekend while waiting for a friend, I headed to Zara on Oxford Circus.
I don't generally shop in Zara as there isn't one near me but that's probably a good thing as I could of spent a small fortune.

Whether your after a 20's style dress, a floral print shirt or pastel accessory, Zara and TRF S/S 12 collection encapsulates the most coveted looks from the runway at a fraction of the price.






I think it's probably best for my bank balance to not shop at Zara at the moment but come pay day I may have no control over my actions :)

The Bafta's 2012

Last week was the start of the awards season in the UK starting with the Bafta awards. Now i'll admit I rarely tune in to watch and find out who wins but I do love a good dress and you can't beat the Bafta's or Oscars for stand out evening gowns.
My Favourite dress has to Miss Piggys, who wore a 50s-inspired, custom made Louis Vuitton gown. 

Now I never thought I'd say i'd be jealous of a pig but you can't knock Miss Piggy. With The Muppets film released recently, she has been the star of choice for leading magazine publications.
With one of the songs from the movie nominated for an Oscar, I wonder whether she'll make an appearance at the awards next Sunday, in another custom made gown?

After the brief flirtation with snow we had today, it feels like were digressing back to winter rather than Spring/Summer. Wednesday Envy: Mint Magic

Following on from my obsession of springs pastel hues, my favourite outfit of the week is Jessica's dreamy mint ensemble. 

I used to wear a lot of  all black outfits (out of pure laziness and being rushed to get ready) but this is a great example of how to get away with wearing an outfit of one colour. The slight tonal differences give it enough variation and the black adds a nice bit of contrast. I would maybe feel a bit cold wearing this at the moment (considering most of last week was minus something) but i'm definitely bookmarking this look for summer!

Trends: S/S 12 - Pastel

I feel already this may be my favourite trend for summer this year. I love the sugary shades of lemon and lilac and even though it's technically still winter just looking at these shades makes it feel like it could already be summer (until you look out the window).

Louis Vuitton's S/S12 show looked stunning with models (including Kate Moss) displaying a confectionary of sugary shades on a carousel no less!

There are some gorgeous pastel pieces already appearing on the high street. I was going to do a round up of my favourites until I found far too many that I wanted to share with you but then ran out of time to actually upload them (so this week may be an influx of pastel focused posts).

I'm glad these shades are back for summer though as I have a spring wedding and I bought a lemon Warehouse dress last year which I now know will be bang on trend. :)

Review: Dresses

I got a bit carried away recently and bought a load of dresses in a particular style. I can't explain why but at the moment I really love skirts or dresses with a drape front skirt but I have found it almost impossible to find one to suit me.

I originally bought these two from inlovewithfashion.com. 

I've seen them featured and look amazing on other fashion bloggers and liked the style and colours they were available in, it was almost too difficult to choose one (or two). I'd also previously bought a wine coloured dress from their range which I talked about here (that I am still absolutely in love with) so had no qualm ordering with them online.
And though they are beautiful, they were incredibly short, so much so if I were to move even a whisper you would see more than you would at Stringfellows.
So I then tried a similar version from Topshop, which fit amazingly but I had the same problem, far too short (and also turned me into a ball of friction, literally any time I touched anything I would get a massive electric shock).

I'd almost given up on finding anything in this style until I was perusing the ASOS Sale and found this number which was reduced to half price. But yet again. Same problem (also the material looked really cheap and shiny)

Maybe its just me? I'm 5'6 so i'm not short but probably shorter than any of the models or some of the bloggers that have worn it and none of them look like they're in danger of a 'oh nice underwear by the way' moment. so I either have too big a bum, making it look shorter or I have become a prude?

Either way the hunt continues. Any recommendations welcomed. 

Pretty Purchase: Shoes!

I got these back in December and wasn't a hundred percent sure I was going to wear them as I wasn't completely sold by the block heel but they actually look really nice on and are mega comfortable.

They're from Forever21.co.uk and cost me about £16 which I think is a complete bargain as they look way more expensive than that (well I think so anyway). They are a deep berry purple in (faux) suede which is literally my favourite colour at the moment, so much so I have a blazer (from Forever 21) and small satchel in a matching colour.

Just wish I could find more occasions to wear them as there just a tad (way too) high for me to drive in or wear everyday.

Wednesday Envy: Blake Lively

Besides metallic accessories i've never owned a metallic item of clothing. I always try things on but just feel like a bit of a spaceman or like a marathon runner with one of those foil wraps you get after you've run a race.  Though after seeing Blake Lively in this ensemble I think I would feel anything but something from out of space. 

Blake was wearing this gorgeous Gucci metallic skirt at Sprinkles Bakery in New York to launch her own cupcake, the 'Smore's cupcake' (uhh yum!)

I like it because it's a classic look of skirt and shirt but the metallic pop makes it feel fun and youthful. The only thing i'm not keen on are Blake's green Brian Atwood pumps. But each to there own (I do like how she's matched her nails to her shoes though).

Fashion: All that Glitters

You may have adorned your tree with tinsel and baubles of glitter this christmas making it look perfectly festive. But glitter (in my opinion) should never just be left on the christmas tree. It's also a great way to shine this party season. 
Dolce and Gabbana, Chanel and Diane Von Furstenberg embraced shimmering style and even Vogue Veteran Anna Wintour stepped out in sequinned skirt suit so you know it's a winner this winter. 

Spring 2012 catwalks

I think my love of all things glittery stem from my youth of roll on body glitter (don't judge I was 14 at the time) which has blossomed into a full on magpie addiction with all things shiny. 
It's not just dresses this season that have been given a glitzy makeover. If you prefer your LBD then perk up a black ensemble with an embellished clutch or sequinned block heels. 
Even better news is that Spring sees sequin's staying power with Ellie Saab, Jenny Packham and Anna Sui's runaways bedazzling in 2012. 
Okay maybe not a spring staple for every day wear but certainly invest in a be-sparkled evening piece now (especially as they'll probably all be in sale as of boxing day) and rock it from now until Summer.

Fashion: The roaring 20's

I recently went to watch Midnight in Paris, not really knowing what to expect as most of the reviews I read tried not to to give away the plot-line (so I apologise in advance if I give away any details if you haven't seen it already). 

Now I will admit some of the story may have gone a bit over my head with certain references but one thing I truly loved was the fashion. Especially as it was from one of my favourite eras, the 20's. 

Ahh the scalloped and handkerchief hemlines, the embellishment, the hair and of course dancing away to the charleston. 

It's a trend that i'm happy to say is making its way back onto the fashion scene once again and I bet it will continue into 2012, especially when The Great Gatsby remake is released next year. 

As the party season is upon us i've seen a lot of gorgeous 20's style dresses on the high street. 

Sequinned and fringed to perfection, if i had a christmas party to go to this year (or just money would do) I definitely would choose something 20's inspired.

Pretty Purchase

Now i'm meant to be saving what little money I have for my trip to New York on Monday. But after taking a slight detour on the way to get currency I found myself in Topshop stood in front of a dress (slightly drooling). 

It's one i've seen on lots of fashion blogs and have admired for a while but didn't want to be a sheep and copy everyone else and buy it. 

However after seeing it in person I felt it was my duty to myself to at least try it on and then if I looked horrible I could leave it to the fashionista's. 

But once on, I then found myself not wanting to take it off.

 Maybe on my birthday in Jan but i'm a bit worried the maxi skirt might get ruined or make it impractical. Though I did try draping it around the back through a belt and it looks quite nice that way as well.

But I love it, so I don't care.
